Spirit Week 2021 at SCS

Spirit Week has always been a big deal at St. Clement’s School. It’s an annual celebration of everything that is creative and spirited. It features fun competitions by grade, that bring out some of the greatest flare and most impressive teamwork each year.

There’s a lot of preparation that goes into the Spirit Week performances – which are always a highlight of the week – and this year much of the planning, and the hours of rehearsals, had to happen during a provincial stay-at-home order. However, this restriction didn’t prevent Spirit Week 2021 from meeting the annual expectations, and even exceeding them.

At Wednesday’s e-ssembly, all the grades – and the staff – shared their long-anticipated lip-sync dance videos. Normally performed live in the East Gym over several days and in front of many spectators, this year the groups turned to technology.

From JoJo Siwa and Taylor Swift to Lizzo and Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish and Beyoncé to Ariana and Rihanna, Spirit Week 2021 rocked with carefully choreographed, expertly mixed videos, complete with slick filters, brilliant backgrounds, and talented transitions.

Before a panel of volunteer judges undoubtedly overwhelmed by the task of having to select a winner, performers in classrooms and basements, backyards and the Circular Drive, and accompanied by pets and family members got the SCS community smiling and cheering again and again (and again!)

The Prefect Spirit Week e-ssembly isn’t the only Spirit Week event at SCS this week, as students climb stairs (1.5 million steps and counting!), raise money for charity, and go head-to-head in a clash of companionable creativity. Even in the midst of a pandemic, students and staff once again demonstrated the spirit and fun that is such an important component of life at SCS.
